Crompton Catalyst Components & Initiator Solutions. Leading Supplier of Catalysts & Initiators.
Catalysts
Crompton is one of the world’s leading suppliers of
polymerization catalyst components. The company has been a
leader in the development of aluminum alkyls as co- catalysts
in the manufacture of polyolefins and synthetic rubber. We
began manufacturing aluminum alkyl co-catalysts in Europe
over 40 years ago. Since then, we have branched our expertise
toward the manufacture of alkyl silane stereomodifiers and
magnesium alkyls (Ziegler-Natta components), while also expanding
our manufacturing base to include North America. Crompton
has now developed metallocene catalyst components as well
as MAO (methyl aluminoxane) co- catalyst manufacturing to
help our customers meet the exacting needs of single-site
catalysts. With catalysts being highly reactive compounds,
the service we provide for our customers reaches beyond product
technology and includes an active education program to ensure
safe and proper handling of the containers.
Let our team of catalyst experts help you find the perfect
solution to meet your specific requirements.
Catalyst Solutions Include:
Aluminum alkyls and magnesium alkyls catalyst components used
for the production of polyolefins with Ziegler-Natta- catalysts.
The Eurenor dialkyldimethoxysilanes are steromodifiers (steroregulators)
used to minimize undesired atatic resin in the production
of polypropylene. EURECEN metallocene catalyst components
are used in the polymerization of polyethylene and polypropylene
via single- site catalysis.

Initiator Specialists. Organic
Peroxide Initiators
With over 30 years of manufacturing and technical expertise,
Crompton is a leading developer and producer of organic peroxides.
These organic peroxides have a number of applications including
initiators for the polymerization of unsaturated monomers,
and polypropylene molecular weight modification (controlled
rheology). Crompton has a strong commitment to quality and
innovation. We have introduced many products into the market
that are now industry standards. These include stabilized
peroxydicarbonates and the first low temperature neoperoxyesters
(Esperox 33 and 939).
Polymerization Initiators
Crompton provides a full line of high quality, high purity
peroxide initiators that can be utilized in polymerization
reactions. These initiators can be used for polymerization
of monomers including ethylene, vinyl chloride, styrene, vinyl
acetate and acrylates. These peroxide initiators provide the
customer with a broad range of initiator solutions, allowing
the customer to tailor an initiator package to application
needs. Initiators include USP and BZW diacyl peroxides, Esperal
dialkyl peroxides, hydroperoxides, Esperox monoperoxycarbonates,
and peroxyesters, and Espercarb peroxydicarbonates.

Peroxide Vis-Breakers (Rheology
control agents)
Viscosity modification or degradation of polypropylene is
an important process in modifying the physical properties
of the polyolefin to give a controlled rheology polypropylene.
The most common Crompton peroxide initiators for molecular
weight modification of polypropylene (vis-breaking) are dialkyl
peroxides, e.g., di-t-amyl peroxide (DiTAP). DiTAP does not
yield potentially hazardous regulated decomposition products
such t-butyl alcohol (TBA), which is produced from decomposition
of other currently used peroxide products. Polymers that contain
small amounts of TBA may be limited in their use for indirect
food contact applications. Further, an independent study demonstrated
that polypropylene that been modified to the same melt flow
with DiTAP had a significant organoleptic advantage. The polymer
has a less intense, and more agreeable, pleasant odor.
